The Anatomy of Meal Plans

  • Understanding how dining venues are categorized and what SUNY Plattsburgh meal plans include is key in assisting you to select the best value based on your dietary wants, needs and budget.

Dining venues are categorized and referred to as Dining Halls or Retail Dining Venues.

Meal plans have different components: Meal Equivalencies, Meal Exchanges, Guest Passes, Late Night Meal Equivalencies, Dining Dollars, Express Dollars, Cardinal Cash.

 

Meal Exchange

  • A specific menu offering at any retail dining location
  • Expire at the end of each week
  • Not valid during Late Night hours
  • Equal one meal swipe in Clinton and Kent Café

Guest Pass

  • The cardholder must accompany the guest
  • Guest Passes expire at the end of each semester

Late Night Meal Equivalency

  • Available at the Sundowner from 8:00 p.m. to closing
  • Equals a meal swipe valued at $8.75
  • One Late Night meal purchase per night
  • Do not rollover and expire at the end of the semester

Meal Equivalency

  • Have a $8.75 value in any retail location
  • Additional Meal Equivalencies may be added to Flex Plans
  • Expire at the end of each semester

Dining Dollars

  • May be used in any dining location
  • Additional Dining Dollars may not be added to meal plans
  • Are tax exempt and non-transferable
  • Unused Dining Dollars rollover from fall to spring semester and forfeited at the end of the spring semester

Express Dollars

  • May be used in Campus Express to purchase food, beverages, and selected health and beauty products
  • May be used in any dining location once Dining Dollars are depleted
  • Additional Express Dollars may be added to meal plans
  • Unused Express Dollars rollover from fall to spring semester and forfeited at the end of the spring semester
  • Purchases with Express Dollars are not tax-exempt and are non-transferable.

Cardinal Cash (available as part of the off-campus meal plans)

  • Everyone with a SUNY Plattsburgh ID has a Cardinal Cash account.
  • Cardinal Cash is a declining prepaid debit account and may be used campus-wide and off-campus at over 50 locations.
  • Cardinal Cash does not expire and rolls over from semester to semester.
  • Additional deposits may be added to this account anytime.
