Innkeeper for Valcour Inn and Boathouse

Enthusiastic hospitality professional needed to run a busy event venue and seven-room inn on the shore of Lake Champlain just south of Plattsburgh, New York. This is a live-in position managing an historic property. The Boathouse and Inn are popular wedding destinations with a heavily booked summer season. The guest bedrooms are open for a minimum of ten months per year.

Valcour Inn and Boathouse is in the town of Peru, directly across the water from Valcour Island, site of the historic 1776 "Battle of Lake Champlain" between General Benedict Arnold and the British fleet. It is owned by College Auxiliary Services at SUNY Plattsburgh. The Inn was built in 1925 and features a series of connecting rooms on the ground floor that can hold up to 120 guests and is open for conferences, business and social events, and college functions most of the year. The Boathouse, with a capacity of 175, was built in 1915 and is open for events from May to mid-October. The grounds and gardens are large with spectacular lake vistas.

We are looking for a highly motivated, self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, who is creative, customer-focused, and willing to welcome up to 170 guests at a wedding or roll up their sleeves to turn a room. The successful candidate will have a positive and encouraging attitude with team members and with outside service providers. The Innkeeper will be well organized with a passion for hospitality and a desire to deliver outstanding guest experiences.

Duties include customer relations, managing reservations through an online system; managing a small part-time staff; overseeing events; working closely with the Property Manager for set up and maintenance of the facilities and grounds; housekeeping and breakfast provision for guests as required. Some on-call availability will be necessary and flexibility in hours and duties is a must.. The Innkeeper will also have marketing responsibilities and will be focused on revenue growth opportunities including representing Valcour at wedding shows and tourism promotional events during our slower season. Good computer skills are required for website and reservation system management, and social media experience is desired. Two years of college coursework or Associate's degree in hospitality field; and two years of experience in hotel/resort, restaurant, or hospitality management required.
